People, Tools and Processes

Before posting articles about applications, I would like to emphasize the fact that improving your work, is not all about using new tools. This might sound obvious to some of you but I still see a lot of people hoping that using a new system will suddenly change their life for the better.

If the current situation is not clear in terms of interactions and ownership between the people, the current tools and processes, changing the tools might not solve anything.

It is important to understand:

  • why you would like to use a new tool
  • what you would like to solve or improve
  • your use cases
  • the people who would interact with the new tool and their role
  • what your current processes are and how they would change with a new system
  • how you will measure the success of the new solution
  • how you will make sure that after the system is launched, you won’t fall back to previous issues

If you select a new product for yourself, then it might be fine but if it impacts other people it could be more challenging.

Change is difficult for some people so make sure that they understand how the tool will improve their life and if you change their processes, it is important to have clear roles and ownership for each task.
